5 years

It is kind of hard to believe, but Friday, August 19th, 2011 was Kenzo and my 5th Wedding Anniversary.  Every year on our anniversary, while we’re eating dinner, we talk about three things: one thing that we have learned in the past year (or sense we’ve been married), one of the things we appreciate about the other person and one thing we look forward to.  This year, our answer to what we have learned was so similar that I thought I would share it with you.  We have learned that marriage is tough, and you cannot take marriage nor the one you’re with for granted.  You have to work to keep romance alive . . . and work to fight against everyday becoming boring.  But it is also worth it.  So – to a marriage that is worth it, here is our 5th Anniversary date through photos:

The first surprise of the date! My sweet husband found some of my favorite things around Cuzco. (Seriously, in my head I was singing “these are a few of my favorite things…coffee, dark chocolate, and a glass of wine…I simply remember my favorite things, and then I don’t feel, so bad.) Since Kenzo could not find wrapping paper, he hid them in the drawers of the desk, which made it fun to open one at a time! Also, I have been craving dark chocolate since we got here, but haven’t found any that was a normal price, so this special Peruvian made one was perfect!

Our date started with a surprise from Paulina and Julia - hot chocolate and Apple Pie.

We then headed to a restaurant that had a balcony over looking Plaza de Armas for wine, appetizers and the sunset.

Our delicious appetizer (kind of like a jalapeno popper with guacamole) and delicious vino.

We stayed here for awhile and watched it get darker . . .

. . . and darker. (Kenzo took this awesome shot with the bulb function), cool, huh?

And we even saw a random parade come by our window while we enjoyed the beginning of our date.

After appetizers, we decided to get off the beaten path a little bit and went to Chi Cha for dinner.

Another round of drinks and appetizers (Kenzo could not resist)

Ah-mazing dinner...I had some red pepper risotto and seafood and he had sweet trout and peppers over a delicious potato.

We were stuffed and so decided not to get dessert. But the waiter, with whom we had made reservations (and at that time had told him our reason for celebrating) brought us this surprise Happy Anniversary plate. And of course, we ate it.

After dinner we hung out in Plaza de Armas for awhile before heading over to our final stop.

Oh yeah, I asked Kenzo to take a full body shot of me so that I could show off the nicest outfit that I brought to Cuzco - lovely, huh? I think the shoes make the outfit.

Our last stop was The Muse. Where we went to hear a Cuban band, watch salsa and have a drink. It was so fun!

Kenzo sampling the Machu Picchu - he didn't so much love it.

The band: El Cubanismo (I tried to upload a video to youtube but it was taking forever! If we get faster internet, maybe I'll try again)

And last but not least, the Salsa dancers (the girl is from Holland, go figure - she was excellent!)

It was the perfect way to celebrate this milestone.  Thanks Kenzo for 5 great years!
